Persian Shield

The Persian Shield (Strobilanthes dyerianus) is a striking tropical perennial valued for its dramatic, richly colored foliage. Its leaves are a deep, iridescent purple with a metallic sheen, often appearing to shift between purple, violet, and bronze depending on the light. Produces small, tubular purple flowers on slender stems in late summer, though the foliage is the main attraction. It grows to about 2 to 3 feet tall and wide and thrives in shade and moist, well-drained soil. While often grown as a houseplant or in warm climates as a garden annual, it is sensitive to cold and frost. Its bold appearance makes it a favorite for adding visual interest to containers, borders, or shaded garden areas.
